I paint as a means to connect with the collective human spirit through the feminine perspective. The soul and the earth, both feminine, inform the female subject and the archetypal themes of living as a woman in the world. Each painting conveys a different aspect of that spirit: desolation, joy, surrender, beauty, and awe. The context is subtle. The spare use of environment invites the viewer to reflect and interpret the paintings for themselves.

Most recently the surfaces of the paintings have become more fluid and expansive. In some cases the paint overtakes the subject, causing one to question both the materiality of the paint and the role of the subject. Activating the paintings with an energized subject and paint application allows me to pursue my interest in the many facets of the gaze, and to continue the dialogue beyond the corporeal body we inhabit and the soul that inhabits us.
